The 1st Cybersecurity breakfast was held this Wednesday, November 16th at the Novotel Luxembourg-Kirchberg. The event, organized by Securitymadein.lu and Deloitte, gave an overview of the national cybersecurity strategy. 3 experts from the field discussed it:
- François Thill, Deputy Director for e-commerce and information security, Ministry of The Economy Luxembourg;
- Rodolphe Mans, Head of Operational Risk Management, Banque internationale à Luxembourg (BIL);
- Stéphane Hurtaud, Partner Information & Technology Risk, Deloitte.
On the agenda of this early morning meeting, the new national cybersecurity strategy vs the constantly evolving threats. François Thill presented the strategy and stressed the need of a common language, more specifically in the field of risk management. This common language would then allow the mutualisation of the numerous security efforts by sharing information on risks and threats.
Rodolphe Mans didn’t contradict this point of view and illustrated it through his experience in the protection against DDoS attacks.
An intense discussion ensued, with questions and testimonies of great quality and unusual frankness. The ongoing professionalization of the attackers and the development of the intrusion attempts were highlighted. The reluctance or even shyness of the targeted companies to share information on incidents they faced was also reported. “We must stop being shy” commented Christophe Bianco (Excellium). To this Rodolphe Mans replied: “It’s true that everyone is not ready to play the information sharing game. We should anonymize certain information … because you can’t tell your customers that you are the victim of a DDOS attack … ”
